National Parks on Twitter

As I discovered National Park Service sites posting on Twitter I would include them in #followfriday and other posts. Once in a while people ask if there is a comprehensive list. I thought for sure a something official would emerge given the recent marketing efforts of Ken Burn's PBS documentary, but to date nothing official or otherwise has appeared on my radar. So let's get started! Here's a map with all parks I know of so far using Twitter.

Why a map and not a simple text list? People may not know their local parks by name, but they certainly know where they live or where they're interested in visiting.

List gathering got a bit haphazard so I ended up referencing the NPS's own Twitter profile, assuming they are following at least all parks under their management.

NPS resources are easy to marker save the National Historic Trails out there. For now I'm listing them in a marker bucket off the California coast. As time allows the maps will overlay the trails using Google's line tools and mark them appropriately.

This is a simple beginning. What other information would be useful in this map? And have I any parks/sites/trails? Care to contribute building this? Let me know in the comments below or @roadup me.

Thanks!

Thanks for the pointer, I'll sync the lists up! The map was put together before Twitter Lists were in full use, but a visual display is still fun to look at. I'm also working to link up related organizations for each entry as well, such as "Friends Of" or trust groups.
